Simi Kaur
Founder, Director and Editor-in-Chief The Australian Kathak Company
Simi Kaur is the Founder, Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Australian Kathak Company. She began her career in management consulting, grounding the way she runs the company in a high standard of professionalism, storytelling, editorial and curatorial instinct, and care for people, process and system.
She came to Kathak as an adult, drawn in by the beauty, technique and history of the form, and by the artists who have carried it forward across generations. That fascination deepened into a growing commitment to the form, matched by an awareness of the gap between its calibre and the professional structures available to support it — a gap she has since heard echoed by artists around the world through the company's ongoing artist feature series. She founded The Australian Kathak Company to close that gap: platforming leading and emerging talent of the highest calibre, and contributing to the growth of the art form's ecosystem both in Australia and abroad.
Her vision is to build sustainable, career-defining opportunities for Kathak artists, and to open up new, considered ways for audiences — existing and new — to discover and engage with the form.
Simi holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health (Distinction) and a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Population Health) from the University of Auckland.
